My (Day) "Saver"

This saves my day:) Especially there's once after I sneaked out for breakfast with hubby (& of all the places we chose Ah Mei), we smelt like a dish of Indian curry. Glad we'd this to kill the evidence!:P
It's a Christmas gift from an ex-colleague & is meant for the hair only. But I find it as good for the clothes but just need a few more sprays to rid the unwanted smell.website statistics

Rainbow after the Rain

Actually it's still drizzling a lil. Caught it while hubby's driving on CTE, towards home. I could see the whole semi-circle spread across the whole sky... too wide for my phonecam to capture.
Simply beautiful.

Our CNY preparations

It's a busy period for us few weeks before the Lunar New Year. As usual, we've done up a checklist & were glad that all errands were ticked off according to schedule.

Overall this year's chores were lighter than last year's. At least we didn't have to clear our big store room & paint the planter's boxes. But the last week before CNY was filled with errands. Mum made kueh lapis for my MIL, so we had to find a night to deliver (decree from mum to have it delivered 'fresh from the oven'.. what to do??). And another night, helped buy a few cartons of drinks for parents inlaw. One night (Thurs) was entirely spent on my nails. I reached FEP as early as I could at 6pm but I was only done around 9.30pm.

Another night, we went to Chinatown just to get a cat for me. I saw this very adorable 'zhao cai mao' during a lunch-time trip to Chinatown's bazaar with colleagues. I didn't buy it then but regretted...
Gong Xi Fa Cai! Miao...

The weekend before CNY, Saturday, we spent the whole afternoon around Bugis... collected our altered clothes and bought the goodies, both from Rochor, some shopping as well as getting a cake for FIL's birthday. In the evening, we went for the reunion + birthday dinner at Choon Seng Punggol Restaurant. Was a happy 9-course reunion dinner with a total of 5 tables... CNY mood was already in the air then:)

Just to Queensway Shopping Centre alone, we'd made quite a few trips, almost once every 2 days. Besides going to our regular seamstress in Rochor for alteration, we're trying out one located in Queensway Shopping Centre. And hubby found a boutique that sells nice pieces for guys. Not cheap though and the lady boss claimed that quite a few Mediacorp artistes were their regular customers. But more importantly for us, the shirts & pants suit hubby very well. With no prior intention, hubby bought a suit together and a shirt. The suit, uniquely in grey with a tinge of silver, was quite a good deal. More for the shirt... we saw a similar piece in Seoul last year & it's priced at slightly more than a hundred, after conversion. And the one that hubby bought was just about 60% of it. So the collection of his altered pieces & re-alteration from the boutique contributed to 2 of the trips to Queensway.

Every year, there're lots of washing/cleaning up, numerous errands to run & seemingly endless items to buy which could get a lil overwhelming at times.. just for a week of celebration, or 2. But it's all worth it as we simply like CNY:P

The Longest we ever had, so far

We’d had a very nice break of 12.5days for Christmas/New Year. Getting into the details, we’ve spent 294 hours together, if inclusive of 6-7 hrs of sleep every day… the missing 6 hrs (12.5 days = 300 hours) would have to be our toilet trips & shower time for those days.

Didn’t go out of Singapore but the fact that we didn’t need to work was delightful enough:) Every morning when we woke up, the first thing we thought about was: "where to have breakfast?".

It's an interesting holiday. Had an assortment of activities during these 12.5days:

- Christmas Eve > gathering with Vince’s family & relatives
- Christmas Day > gathering with my family
- Boxing Day > my “body wellness day” >> facial treatment, acupuncture session then shopping in FEP (shopping = wellness? Sure! :P)
- Several nights > gaming session. Some memory game using poker cards. And hubby also taught me to play "dai di"... as in the past I didn't have the interest to learn though someone's willing to teach. Only both of us, poker cards, beer, chips. Had so much fun that we wouldn’t sleep before 1am during those nights (when we played cards).
- The few days before New Year (29 -31 Dec) > we’re out almost the whole day but just stayed within the neighbourhood. We seemed to have endless things to buy (mainly for the household). In & out of the newly renovated Northpoint & newly opened Sembawang Shopping Centre.
- New Year’s Eve > dinner with mum in Northpoint. Her treat!
- New Year’s Day > had dinner & drinks with L.
- Aside the above, we also started our spring cleaning - packed the smaller store room & removed the curtain for dry cleaning, watched TVB series, sent some of our new clothes to our regular seamstress in Rochor for alteration & gave our car's interior a thorough steam cleaning .....

While our colleagues felt it'd bore them out to have such a long break if weren't travelling, hubby & I found it addictive and wanted more! Maybe we're plain lazy! Hehe.

The next we're looking forward to will be the 9-day CNY break :)

Bitten too many times

Last Wed lunch time, I bought my usual take-away bee hoon kueh from the coffeeshop nearby. Was walking back to office when I heard a "hello" behind me. I looked over my shoulder & saw this young chap following closely. Had no idea when he started to appear as the last I knew was meeting 2 chatting ladies at an intersection & then they walked behind me.

Anyhow, everything started & was over in less than a minute while I continued walking throughout....

Guy: Hello, can I know you?
Me: No.
Guy: Then can I give you my name card? (handing me a card)
Me: No.
Guy: Just take it, please?
Me: No.

He asked me to take his card for the 2nd time & I shook my head while giving him a wry smile before picking up my pace.

He might be thinking I embarrassed him in front of 2 ladies.

Isn't this a passé way of knowing girls? Or am I wrong?

Befriending someone on the streets used to be real popular. It didn't just happen to hot babes... those who've seen pix of my much younger days will know what I mean. And hubby can't stop himself from laughing at/teasing me whenever we're on this :\

My 1st encounter should be....... when I was in Sec 3 or 4? A group of guys were roller-skating (yep it's that era haha) at the opposite void deck. I was below my block walking to the bus-stop when a few of them approached me, wanting to chat. There's a particular one who'd been skating next to me persisted for a distance before giving up. I thought he looked cute but mum ever said towards strangers4 Hear. So I ignored them. Though I was secretly hoping to see this cute guy again at the void deck.

Then along the way, met people who came up with those usual stunts like asking for time, saying I looked like so & so, asking for direction, etc. A freak even tailed me from the bus all the way to my void-deck.

Besides the roller-skating boy (the memorable 1st :þ)... a few gave a deeper impression:

- On my way to school (pre-u). After I alighted, someone called me from behind & asked for time (typical!). Then he started asking for my name & stuff. Another cute guy who's an undergrad & a swimmer. Then we exchanged home nos. Obviously I no longer listened to my mum after a few years ;) Met up a few times. I was once pretty crazy over him. Imagine those days without cell phone.... when you're out, you're literally out of reach. So I would spend most of my time at home, near the phone. But I'd to accept he's just a rover.

- During year-end holiday job (pre-u again). A Swiss asked me for direction & then those usual questions. Contact details exchanged. We corresponded (letters) a few times after he returned to Zurich. More than a year later I think, he visited Singapore again & I agreed to be host. Know what he did on the 1st day we re-met? He proposed to me! He actually asked me to marry him!! That totally blew me away. I was only 19 or 20 then whereas he's nearing 40. We weren't even dating, at least not that I knew of, & I didn't like him at all. Of course I rejected him flatly. Tough to avoid him completely as he's staying here for a week. The next time we met I asked my sis & 1 of her girlfriends along but he treated them as invisible most of the time & attempted to overwhelm me with mushy words the entire evening. That's final for me. I refused to take his calls & had to let him spend his remaining days here by himself. At least there's something good about those no-handphone days, hee. After he returned, he didn't give up & sent me letters, pictures of his yacht & cottage.. saying those would belong to me if I were to marry him *faint* but I didn't respond. Then one night, mum woke me up @ 2am+ & said my boss was looking for me. Turned out to be him blabbering away. I hung up on him shortly after & think that's the last I heard of him. Couldn't imagine myself liking an 'elderly' then.

- During the initial days of working. Was waiting for bus after seeing a doc. Then this very tall & skinny guy who's also waiting at the bus-stop came forward & chatted with me. I recognised him as one of the patients at the clinic. Exchanged home nos & he asked me out the following Sun evening for drinks. He confided in me that his girlfriend had died of cancer a year ago & since then he couldn't bring himself to date other girls till he met me. I was so gullible then & took everything he said. We supposed to meet again the following week but he disappeared, I tried calling but couldn't reach him. Only a few days later he contacted me & said he's busy with work over the weekend. We kept in touch via phone as he always claimed he needed to work extended hours. Blame it on my naivety that I didn't realise I wasn't even a 'Girl Friday'. Only after he went missing for weeks that I finally gave up hope. About a year later, he called me out of the blue. But I was already attached then. As I was so stupid (that I didn't realise he's a jerk when it's so obvious), I even tried to introduce a good friend to him by organising a movie outing with my then clique (5 couples). Thank God she's not ready for another relationship though she'd good impression. Then 1 day, Michelle who'd met him during the outing told me I'd been duped. She attended a wedding dinner the previous night & coincidentally saw him at the next table but he pretended to not know her. She confirmed with a mutual friend that he's indeed Alwin Cheong & then came the shocking news.... he'd already been attached for more than 4 years & the girlfriend was sitting next to him! To think that he told me his girlfriend died of cancer more than a year ago?? Since he's such a scum to be cursing his own girl, I've no qualms about revealing his full name. Who knows, he might still be deceiving other innocent girls now?

- At the DFS of Jakarta international airport. I was browsing while waiting for a flight back after a work trip. I noticed a man was following me for a while & perhaps he sensed that I was turning hostile, he approached me & introduced himself. He's an Italian & maybe because he's handsome, I didn't mind engaging in a conversation with him though his English was limited haha. His friend, another Italian but was the opposite in terms of physical attributes :P, soon joined in after his shopping. We had a coffee together & then they walked me to my boarding gate. I agreed to give him my mobile phone no. but didn't ask for his as I'd no intention to keep in touch. The next day after I returned, he called me from Milan. I was surprised. But I just couldn't figure out what he's trying to say & ended the conversation shortly. It's always easier to communicate face to face with gestures. After days (or weeks?) he called the 2nd time but again, we couldn't talk for long. We could have just exchanged email addresses then.
Soon after, I changed my handphone number. He might have tried calling me again, or he might not have.

As you can see the chance of being acquainted with strange people or jerks almost hit 100%, at least for me, I've shut out those who try to get friendly out on the streets long time ago. Moreover, I'm already happily married now so there's no need to know more guys. :)

Geography

Only today I realise that Russia is the biggest country in the world. Canada is the second.

This map is right in front of me every day but it's only today that I took a good look at it.

I know Russia is a transcontinental country but never did I know that it extends all the way from (Europe) Norway... Finland... Ukarine... Turkey... to (Central Asia) Kazakhstan... Mongolia then (Asia, or East Asia) China... & finally North Korea. It's very close to Japan & the US (Alaska) too. And I used to think it only connected to Finland, Kazakhstan & Mongolia.

I am so ignorant..

Hellenic Republic

Whoa what's that? It's actually Greece lah.

Very post-card pix right????

They're taken by my SIL (Vince's 2nd sis) who'd returned from a holiday to the legendary Greece 2 weeks ago. While we're all envious about her trip, she came back with big disappointment. According to her, Chinese are considered LCP.. either cleaners or prostitutes! Hmm!! Well at least she'd been there & fulfilled her dream of 15 years...

I'm sooo taken by the beautiful scenery.... but an unpleasant understanding about this country....

O wat a nite ...

We didn't really sleep the evening before leaving for my trip, which's a Fri night. Filled with activities but not as great as we'd hoped to be. Guess it's just not my day...

- Took half day to Justina's & get my hair colored. Turned out the color was the same as previously
Weepy Guess next time I better keep my mouth shut & let her do it all.

- Then gave my honey a pleasant surprise by waiting for him outside his office.

- Went Millenia Walk for a quick dinner @ the foodcourt, thereafter went to Harvey Norman as we heard there's a sale going on. Wanted to get our all-glass newspaper rack we'd missed it previously when it's going for half-price. When we finally wanted to buy it, no more 50% & also only left with a display, chipped unit. Now, not even the sight of the chipped display piece & nothing interesting. To compensate ourselves, went for Killiney toast & .......... disappointing.

- Went back to my office to get all the stuff needed for the travel.

- Hubby brought me to Cozy Bay & we had a jug. It's 1 of Vince's fav & I agree it's a great spot. But that night I wasn't in a mood to stay in a quiet, cozy, windy place. Felt sorry for my honey upon seeing the disappointment on his face. I do like the place & would love to go back 1 day. Really, honey.

- Took a round in Orchard wanting to find somewhere for a drink & ended up having chicken rice supper @ River Valley.

- Last minute decided to join Vince's colleagues at MOS. Were stuck in the long queue of cars into the carpark. It definitely looked happening, seeing the crowd & the type of cars going into the VIP lots. By the time we arrived at the entrance, it's already 1am... No special liking towards the place, perhaps it's too crowded or too distractive as since there're several genre-specific rooms, we moved around a lot. We may go back or we may not... I don't know, perhaps depending on our mood then & who we'll be going with. But we do realise 1 thing - we're more & more domesticated.. hmmm..... not a bad thing though, considering the amount of $$ we spent on our home, it should be the way.

Had only 2 hours of zZz before waking up to pack the remaining luggage. Went to visit daddy's before going to the airport.
