Tink !

Had been trying to find a suitable character for myself since the D&D theme was Once Upon A Time... something about fairy tales.  Initially thought of dressing up as an (random/nameless) angel.. just wanted to doll up & be pretty for that night. Then  when hubby suggested Tinkerbell, my first reaction was "NOoo!".

2 weeks before the event, we went to this costume house at Toa Payoh... it's huge!! Nothing caught my eyes & I definitely didn't want to be Snow White or Mermaid! Then we saw Tinkerbell's outfit & I thought it wasn't that bad, the skirt was a lil too short but definitely I'd wear shorts :)

Dearest hubby was amusing himself in the shop!

Days before D&D, I was busy getting all things ready & finding solution to a situation which I was stuck in - S said would follow me home as she wanted me to do makeup for her & C wanted to have afternoon tea together before the Dinner (& I felt obliged because C said she'd go because I asked her to).  And even though we'd have an early knock-off @ 3.30pm that day & hubby had made prior arrangement to drive me office-home-MBS-home, I foresaw that by the time I reached home I'd only have time for myself. Hence after much consideration & discussion with hubby, we eventually rented a room at MBS, so that the ladies including myself could get prepped/have tea in the room.

That day, as planned, we left office at 3.30pm & hubby drove us to MBS.  We're glad that hubby came as there's a long Q at the taxi stand & it's changing shift time so not easy to get a cab.  After checking in, hubby did his work in the hotel room with his laptop while the 4 ladies busy dolling up, chatting, sipping tea & having dessert.  I was the first to start preparing so I could help C & S.  But I made a big blunder :(  In order to have the best effect, I bought a pair of blue lenses.  But I have totally forgotten about it till I was 80% done with my makeup.  Having (almost) perfect eyesight meaning I didn't need to wear contact lenses, I struggled with putting them on (which took me more than 15mins) & then trying to remove them as they pricked my eyes.  After more than half an hour's attempts, my whole face was soaked with perspiration & yes, my makeup completely ran.  So I gotta remove all my makeup.. & started the whole process again.  I was really upset with myself especially after so much fuss & delays, I still went sans blue lenses!  And threw $24 into the bin!  But the 3 ladies had been really patient with me... none of them chided me for wasting so much time & still tried best to not disturb me.  When I was done, it's already past 7pm & we supposed to be down @7!  In the midst, I only managed to help S with the eyeliner - the Queen must have fierce eyes!

Upon checking in, I told MBS we're celebrating a friend's birthday (S' fell on this month).  And they delivered this to our room.  So we've a free afternoon tea (in-room TWG tea + Raspberry Choco cake)! ;)

Helping C with her hair.
Notice mine's quite blond?  Hubby & I searched for colored hair spray & hubby helped to spray on after I was done with dressing up.  Everyone's impressed with the effect! ;)

Ok all set!  & it's already past 7.30pm!
We then realised that it's a looooong walk from the hotel to the convention centre.... from one end of MBS to the other end - down the escalator - through the casino - past the shopping mall to reach 5 levels of escalators before reaching our destination.  Of course, we attracted many stares.  It's my first time :P

While we adjourned to the D&D, hubby enjoyed his dinner at Kraze Burger & then went back to the room to continue his work.  And yes, he confessed that he played with the blue lenses but failed to put them on, haha.

It's a night of fun for us...  Took lots of photos with buddies Cindy & Adel & the group. Boss wanted me to sit with the team but I preferred to be with my friends (& a group of us formed our own table).  So I'd to also run between my table & the teams'.  Happy that I didn't choose to dress up as an angel as there're many nameless angels around that night.

Love this!  The hall was so big that we kept missing each other & it's impossible to Whatsapp/call as the connection was bad!  Imagine... there're 260 tables (x 11 pax/table) & how many were using their phones.
So we're like long lost friends when we finally bumped into each other :D

Towards the end of the dinner, I joined my team & got stuck there (when the ladies went back to the room to get their stuff, they told hubby I was missing! hehe).  By then many members in my team were seriously intoxicated.  One of them told me that they'd been drinking since the start of the dinner... & instead of being served by the waiter, they asked to have the whole bottle of red wine left on the table & the flow of red wine never ceased!  Well, I guess that's the privilege of being at the VIP table.  But I really thank God I wasn't sitting with them!!

After a few dances, I "danced" off to the exit & hubby was waiting for me downstairs to fetch his Tinkerbell wife back :)

Finally, a pic with my beloved when we're back in the room, before ending the night.

Rise & Shine the next morning.  We got a nice city view room :)

At least it didn't waste all the efforts in preparing & I have my beloved hubby to thank! From shopping around for ideas, searching for suitable characters, going to/from the costume shop a few times (not only for myself but for a couple of colleagues too!) to looking for other accompanied items for the character, hubby had been so supportive that as if he's the one who's going for the event.  The ladies were in fact impressed with how hubby took care of me & they kept asking "ok tell us, what else did you do/pack by yourself??".  Yes, I'm so blessed to have him!  Thank God!!  And thanks honey!  Muakz!!

Once Upon A Time @ MBS

I had my company Dinner & Dance last Fri & the theme was Once Upon A Time.  It's a night of fun & photo taking :)

Which character is this? ;)

A group pic

It's such a coincidence that my boss dressed up as Peter Pan haha!

Table hop!
We're sitting far apart that night - my team's was right in front of the stage, the VIP table,
but I chose to sit with my friends which was right behind, near the entrance.

Posing with good friends

Busy night as I was moving from table to table.  Food wasn't the focus for most of us!

An inter-unit picture :)
The one with turban is our big boss.
See 朱葛亮 in the middle (he's actually my boss when I first joined in 2008)?
When we're about to take picture, he started to look for something on the &
those around him helped in the search too.
Just when I wondered what was lost, he whipped up his feather fan (朱葛亮's signature)
out of no where.  Lost & found!  Ha!

Those in the leadership team dressed up as Indian royals.

Pretty witch
Some pics! (taken from friends as I was busy catching up with different friends and didn't get to take shots of some interesting characters)

Singapore F1 GP

Hubby was offered 2 Grandstand tix to tonight's F1 night race. So there we went, after dinner at home.

Parked our car in Bishan & took the train to Cityhall as we didn't want to risk getting caught in a congestion.

An extremely short video before my dear mobile declared "memory's full"! Yep... of all the timing! (still exploring how to set video recording to memory card as default).

The shrieking sound whenever the cars whizzed by was truly deafening (I was worried for our eardrums!) but it's interesting.

We didn't get to the Grandstand though. We arrived pretty late at 10pm-ish & it's a long walk to the seats at Marina Bay. And I was already perspiring like a running tap once I got to the outdoors (I wonder why I've so much perspiration!?). So we only stayed around for a while.

It was a short but intriguing night out.

Reunion

A friend of 20 years, Michelle, & her other half invited hubby & I to a dinner organised by their church. Had fun catching up with some good old friends - Simone & Cindy. It's an event (a 9-course Chinese dinner) with an attendance of about 100 couples.

Been at least 10 years since we took a pic like this together

We won The Most Compatible Looking Couple Award!
I got a bouquet and hubby, a $20 Häagen-Dazs voucher :)

No wonder earlier on, during a sharing session, a lady walked around our table & stared at us. I was a lil taken aback & thought we shouldn't be whispering & giggling during the sharing. I didn't know there's such an award then & that lady was actually one of the judges. Michelle later told us we're also being 'observed' by 2 other judges but guess hubby & I were too busy chatting among ourselves that we didn't realise. :Pwebsite statistics

Friday nights

The Fri evening before last (6/6), hubby brought me to an event he got invited to - Standard Chartered Bank Rugby Dinner @ Orchard Hotel. While enjoying the novelty of appearing in some official events as Vincent's spouse, I (rather, we) wished we would have a better way of spending our Fri night. Not because more than 95% of the 600 guests were caucasians, it was mainly the subject of this event (& of course the speeches that came along) that bored us to the core.

Not that I am totally strange to rugby games... if you are a Saint, you'll know (if LL's reading this, he should get what I mean:]).. we (as far as I know many of the girls, like myself & my clique) were so into rugby because of our fellow school mates. We supported most of the inter-school matches & our archrival used to be RJ. Our rugby boys had been the target of crushes budded by many adolescent hearts in college.

Talking about this, I remember once during the physical education lesson, the teacher (he's one of those uncles in school that always get bullied or made fun of because of his appearance & behaviour) who obviously didn't spare a thought for our feelings, split us into 2 groups - the guys to play soccer & the girls...... to LEARN rugby. The big field was right in front of the canteen & the best part was.... it was during the time when many of the rugby guys gathered at the canteen! Haha.

So, that's how much I know about rugby :P

Then last Fri, another invitation was extended to Mr & Mrs Soh by the Esplanade - dinner & an Asian choreography of 3 hours by Singapore Dance Theatre. But hubby had to stay back in office to settle some urgent matters so we gave that night's program a miss.

As for tomorrow evening, we plan to have our complimentary Swiss dinner buffet at Cafe Swiss, Swissotel The Stamford. We'll see. :) website statistics

Happy Mum's Day !

We went for an early celebration for mum last Sunday... lunch buffet at Merchant Court which spanned the session from 12 - 2.30pm! It's an easy lunch with small chats.

Today, buffet again with my inlaws & family @ Grand Mercure Roxy Hotel.

This year, the bouquets we gave to our mothers were kind of special as I made them. Of course, with lots of help from hubby :) Initially we thought of getting the Cash&Carry at Goodwood (Far East Flora) which advertised to be very reasonably priced (@$15) but the bouquets were pathetically small! The bigger ones just too pricey!

And I really appreciate my honey for giving me free reign in creating my own bouquets though I've never done it before. I knew he's worried but didn't want to dampen my mood of wanting to get hands on all of a sudden. He's just concerned that I would be very disappointed & upset if it's not a satisfactory job done & also by then, we've no where to get proper bouquets. I must say it's not easy to deal with such a wifey who comes up with funny ideas every now & then, haha. And yes, he's always so supportive.

Just got our stock & all materials needed. They're heavy!

Where else to get our flowers but Far East Flora?

Amateur, with-no-prior-experience, "florist" at work

My work! Tis for mum as she loves lilies.

How about this? For my MIL. I assume she likes sunflowers as she's quite a lot of sunflower decors at home.

We'd have paid more than triple of what we spent if we were to get such a big one (10 - 12 stalks in each bouquet) especially on this special occasion. Everyone's amazed that I did them by myself (& help from hubby.. without his, I'd be handicapped!). Vince's family already complimented it's a pretty bouquet before knowing I DIYed it :D

It's a new found interest for me... just like how much I like wrapping nice & fanciful presents (if you've seen before). June even said I should consider starting some business for Valentine's Day. Hee. After this round of experience, I actually don't mind doing it on some weekends to have more practices, provided that I'm given the opportunity. And mine'll definitely be lower than the market price. So, any orders? ;)

Lunch celebration

Date: 20 December 2007
Host: Mr & Mrs Gerald Goh
Occasion: Their baby's full-month celebration
Venue: Imperial Court Shark's Fin Restaurant @ The Grassroot's Club

"Hello uncles & aunties! My name is Chase Goh (chase gold?)"
I'm not being rude. It's his daddy who said it :)

Look at the host. Were shocked when first saw him at the entrance as all of us had dressed nicer than him! Haha.

Would have thought he works in the restaurant's kitchen if we don't know him.
It's a present tense as he apparently dons this style at all times.
But he is rich ok (his family).

It's an extremely lengthy lunch. We arrived before 12 & only left at 3.

It was a Great Friday

Company Christmas lunch @ Royal Plaza on Scotts. Been a few years since our last visit & it (the restaurant at least) sure has changed to the better after the revamp.

Nice halal food

With colleague.
I still went ahead with the tube dress but a zip front cardi never left me as well. Anyway the weather was cold.

It was a fun & fruitful affair for everyone.

I brought home:
1) TupperChef (Tupperware) 3 piece pot/steamer from lucky draw. Think it's worth S$200+.
2) An ang pao of S$120.
3) Takashimaya vouchers of S$300.
4) NTUC vouchers of S$60.
5) Complimentary admission for 2 to Sky Tower in Sentosa.

Some won bigger prizes like a flat screen tv, an iPhone... (but no shopping vouchers for the top prize winners).

In the evening, hubby picked me up nearly on the dot. Were meeting Mr & Mrs LL for a K session at our place. Had just enough time for a hasty dinner & shower so we could change into more comfy attire.

LL can sing very well!

We ended slight after 11pm & had a short chat before calling it a night. So much to catch up but it's late. The good thing is.. we've all agreed to arrange a dinner soon :)

Weekend of Family Days

Last Sat, we went 扫墓 ... 4 destinations & a lunch (in-between) took 4 hrs+. After that, bro & family came home with us till dinner. BIL & Rachel rejoined us for a quick dinner @ Causeway Point (sis working).

Sunday.. hubby's company's Family Day @ Jurong Bird Park. We're told that there'd be about 8,000 people showing up but only 200+ parking lots! So hubby & his boss & some colleagues had arranged to meet early in the morning.. 15 mins before the event started. It's a hot hot day & very crowded! Quite fun though... took a walk together & looked at some birds/orange cranes/hawks.. had an interesting conversation with his boss' wife on make-up (she attended a bridal make-up course). Hubby & I love the penguins too.. hehe. The group of us left just after 2pm, after staying for about 5 hrs. Before going home, we went to AMK's newest attraction - AMK Hub. Wanted to just get some groceries from the NTUC hypermart but last minute thought of having cheese fondue for dinner. So we got all the ingredients & made ourselves a simple 1.

Our lil 'fondue fromage' meal :)

RAYURE Fashion Show

Attended a fashion show @ Raffles City last evening. My cousin, who brings this French label into Singapore, invited hubby & me to the runway show. It's a fab one, with lots of French music.
Thanks for the invite, cousin!
