Mannerism

Last evening we returned to AMK for dinner. We're the first to enter the lift & naturally I held the door opened. Came in a young couple with their toddler girl & took their own sweet time to push the stroller in. Then another man entered. And none of them open their golden mouth to say "thank you". So I turned back & asked hubby "am I a doorman?". I think the woman heard it & stared at me. Maybe she didn't get what I was trying to imply or maybe she knew but just couldn't be bothered. Actually I'm wrong to ask that question as even if I were a doorman, they should at least have the basic manners to say a "thanks" to that someone who does something for them.

In fact this wasn't the first time.. perhaps more than half of our lift-taking moments, we meet such people. They are everywhere...

Similarly, at hawker centres/foodcourts, hubby & I always thank those who help us clean the table, be they foreign workers or senior citizens. Some would look a lil taken aback that we actually talked to them. From our observation, people usually treat them as invisible (ironically if the cleaners are really out of sight, the patrons will desperately look for them to clean their tables) or back facing them while they're clearing. But we truly admire & appreciate them as how many out there, especially young locals, are willing to do this type of dirty job? And try to imagine without them around to clear the dirty dishes for us?

I wander how much it takes to just say a "thank you"?

m and i do the same, thankin the cleaners who clear our tables. or serve us food. it's the least we can do, considerin it's not the most gratifyin job for them.

few pple teach on all these basic things already, these days. so kids really don't do much. all in the name of 'happiness, prosperity, and progress for our nation'.

which is why, at times, it's good to get out of this detestable island, and enjoy a bit of humane things with pple fr elsewhere.

i'm happy to know that there're actually 2 more individuals who feel & do the same as us.. at least we're not being seen as the odd balls.

you're right.. people nowadays are very self-centered & arrogant. And the kids, now being fed by formula milk powder, are getting smarter & smarter. They learn fast.. especially the bad things. I always "educate" those rude people, esp kids, whom I come across (unless they don't cross my path lah).. maybe it's my calling haha!

Lucky i'm already married, otherwise really look like an old maid who always lecture people on the street leh.
